This image shows symmetry through a symmetrical balance.
Although this image is not traditionally symmetrical through the leaning of both characters on the same vehicles and matching arm positions they have a sense of symmetry. This is very interesting way to use the formal elements in a creative way.

Positive and Negative GD USA October 2016 Pg. 58 This artwork shows positive and negative space with the leaves being positive and the space around them the negative space. In this advertisement the leaves (positive space) stand a great deal more than if the area around then was not blank negative space. Otherwise they would be lost in the background because of the similar tones in the foreground. It also creates a sense of balance with the blank space around the tree.
